Summer Fun!!

We've had such a fun summer, complete with travels, water time, story time, and lots of play time, that we forgot to update the blog.  Here's what we've been up to.

Enjoying the pool at Christina's apartment on Memorial Day weekend.

We needed some more outdoor toys, and Evan just had to have this car once he saw it at the store.  Turns out it was a great buy.  He absolutely loves it!

Enjoying our baby pool in the backyard.

We left mid-June for our big trip of the summer.  First stop, Aunt Julie and Uncle Joe's house in Indiana.

Then, we continued on to Aunt Amy and Uncle Frank's house.  Evan had a blast playing with Claire and Lily.  He couldn't get over Claire's play room.  A whole room dedicated just to toys!

The Vivio fathers' enjoyed their day at the NASCAR race on Father's Day.

The Vivio children enjoyed the day playing away.
First, at the "Play" place, where there were all kinds of cool toys to explore.

Later, we went to the park and had great fun on the swings!

The next day was daddy's birthday.  We went to the zoo and then to the Michigan State Creamery for a little dessert.  Evan really enjoyed his ice cream cone.

After a great weekend in MI, we were off again.  Next stop, Grandma and Grandpa's house!  Evan and I stayed for the next nine days, but daddy was off again just two days later.  He had a great time at his conference in Austria and got to hang out with some of the "bigwigs" in the tuba world.

Grandpa was able to take the entire week off work to hang out with us, and he and Evan spent lots of time playing together.  They made quite a few trips around the neighborhood that week.

We got to spend a day with Yia yia and Grandpa, too.  I think Evan loves the "Z" as much as Grandpa.

We went to Brookfield Zoo one day with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Joy and Uncle Mark.  I was hoping Evan would take a nap in his stroller, but he refused.  He didn't want to miss any of the action.

After a very long (15 days in total), but very fun trip, we were back home again.

Nothing beats some cool, juicy watermelon on a hot TN day.

Reading books has become a favorite pass time at our house, although Evan now prefers to sit in our laps instead of on top of us for story time.  It just seems to work better that way.

We've discovered a few parks around town.  Evan loves playing outside!

Mmmm...applesauce.  Great in your tummy, great in your hair.

We're up to date now!

Our air conditioner went out yesterday and it's been miserably hot here.  Evan survived last night with a window unit in his room, but Chris and I had to rely on our ceiling fan and pray for a cool breeze to blow through the window.  The service guy finally came late this afternoon to check it out.  Turns out the motor is fried, but he was able to do a temporary fix until the new motor arrives on Monday.  We're running at about 79 degrees now, which is far better than the 91 degrees it was inside the house earlier today.  (And upstairs was worse.)  Evan really didn't seem to mind the heat, though.  I guess nothing but a diaper is the way to go.

Evan's birthday parties.

Party #1

Evan got a comfy new Evan-sized chair from Christina.  He loves it!

In the afternoon, we tried some birthday cake.  Evan was not a fan.

Despite not liking cake, Evan found a way to make a mess anyway.  He didn't like having icing on his hands and arms, so he did everything possible to get it off.  That included smearing it all over his clothes, high chair, legs, and face.

He was such a mess and it was so hot outside, we decided Evan's new pool was a better option than the tub.  Of course, he had to take his spoon in the pool with him.  He's on this new kick that he has to have a utensil at meal times, just like mommy and daddy.  However, he won't relinquish the utensil after eating, and instead takes it with him to go play.

After swimming, Evan opened a few more presents, which he absolutely loved.  The "popcorn" toy was an instant hit, and he's getting the hang of his new "bike" too!

All in all, Evan had a great 1st birthday and we are so glad Yiayia and Grandpa Vivio were able to make the trip to Clarksville to celebrate with us!

Party #2

The following weekend, Grandma and Grandpa VanDeWerken, and Aunt Joy and Uncle Mark, drove to Clarksville to celebrate Evan's birthday (and mommy's birthday and Mother's Day, too).  It was a very short trip for them, so we packed as much partying into one day as we could!

We opened presents throughout the day to extend the fun.  In the morning, Evan received a a whole bunch of percussion instruments.  This was a special treat brought back from Grandma and Grandpa's trip to the Virgin Islands.

In the afternoon, we opened some more gifts geared for the outdoors.

Evan's new swing from Uncle Mark and Aunt Joy was also an instant hit, and we've spent quite a bit of time breaking it in lately.  He was such a good helper getting it all set up, too.

Evan and Grandpa are both big fans of Evan's new Hawks jersey.

Evan loves to "play" my guitar, so Chris and I decided he needs his own.

What a fantastic 1st birthday!!
